Planet Earth Brazil Rio de Janeiro State Rio de Janeiro South Area
Earth  ---> Brazil  ---> State of Rio  ---> Rio de Janeiro  --> Zona Sul  --->

Well, if you are reading this then you are probably in Planet Earth looking for a hostel in Brazil, right ?? ... so I assume that you know that Brazil is in a big continent called America (Yes !! America is a continent, not a country !!) ... in South America to be precise ... and no, neither Buenos Aires nor Rio de Janeiro are the capital, it is Brasilia ... there, in the southeast part of my country is Rio de Janeiro, capital city of the State of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) ... within it you will find the most charming Zona Sul (South Area) in which you will probably spend most of your time in town ...

Botafogo Neighborhood Rio de Janeiro Subway Map
Botafogo  ---> Subway Map

... if you take a close look at the map you will find that the neighborhood of Botafogo is at the center of the South Area, close to the Christ, Sugar Loaf, Downtown, Copacabana and Ipanema ... just look at the maps !! ...

3 min. subway (one station) to Copacabana Beach
10 min. bus to Lapa, Domestic Airport (Santos-Dumont) and all the Historical Downtown of Rio
15 min. bus to Lagoa, Botanical Garden and the Sugar Loaf Mountain
15 min. subway (4 stations) to Ipanema Beach
20 min. bus to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer
20 min. bus to Ipanema Beach
25 min. subway to the Maracanã Stadium (temple of football in Rio)
30 min. bus to the Central Bus Station (Rodoviária)
40 min. bus or taxi to the International Airport (Galeão)

I would like to tell you also that Botafogo is the best neighborhood for you to stay because buses run through here the whole night, it has metro until midnight and it is a very safe neighborhood ... if you are like 99 % of the tourists here in Rio you will like to visit all these touristic spots I've just mentioned hence is better to stay central unless you are addicted to football (in that case you should stay in Zona Norte, near Engenhão and Maracanã but far from everything), or addicted to party (better stay in Lapa, but you won't be able to sleep), or addicted to beaches (better stay in Ipanema, and get ready to spend all your money 'cause it is very very expensive) ... yes my friend, if you stay in Lapa it will be far from the beaches and the Sugar Loaf, if you stay on the beaches it will be far from Lapa and Christ the Redeemer ... take my advice, better to stay close to everything in a superb place in Rio de Janeiro ...

Botafogo Botafogo

Two views from the neighborhood: Botafogo is exactly in the middle of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, Christ the Redemeer and Copacabana (to the right) ... come on, you'll still tell me that this is not the best possible location ?? :)

HOW TO GET HERE:

From the International Airport (Galeão):
Take the bus from the "Real" company that goes to Copacabana (about R$ 8 reais) and ask the driver to drop you at the stop of Mourisco, a big mirror-building (last stop at Botafogo Beach) ... having the Mourisco on your left you'll see a viaduct, after you go under it you will already be in Rua Prof. Álvaro Rodrigues, go straight and the 4th street on the left is Paulo Barreto ...
Resuming: viaduct, straight ahead, fourth on the left ... (40 min. on the bus and 8 min. walk)

From the Domestic Airport (Santos-Dumont):
Take any of the following buses (about R$ 2,50 reais) that go through aterro do Flamengo: 404, 413, 415 or 455 and drop on the same bus stop I've just described, that is: Mourisco (10 min. on the bus, 8 min. walk)

From the Central Bus Station (Rodoviária):
There are 2 ways: if you go the Mourisco way (same instructions) you'll take bus 127 or 128
The other way is to take bus 136, 170, 172 or 178 and drop on the 2nd. bus stop of São Clemente Street (right after "Casa de Rui Barbosa"), take 19 de Fevereiro St., cross Voluntários da Pátria St., go up half a block to get to Paulo Barreto St.... (30 min. on the bus, 8 min. walk)

Coming from the old Tupiniquim
To you, guys that are already part of the Tribe, coming out of the old Tupiniquim go to the little plaza, there on the supermarket is General Polidoro St., go against the flux of the cars, fourth on the right is Paulo Barreto ... (about 6 min. walking)
